Scaling

Digital X-ray
Gone are the days of Old school traditional Film radiography which is not only time consuming but also a health and environmental risk due to the Silver Halide chemicals used in development of such films. At Crescent Dental we only use digital x-rays that allow a rapid capture of the image, which could be modified and enhanced as well. On top of the image being displayed in mere seconds on the screen there is an added advantage of very low radiation dose, which in most cases is as little as 10% of the dose of traditional x-rays.
Digital photography can have big impact on how you preserve your oral health. At Crescent Dental we use photos to educate our patients and help them understand what is going on in their mouth. We use multiple DSLR cameras with standard and macro lenses and ring flash + diffusers to achieve the highest quality dental images possible. Fixed Denture On Implants

Denture Relines
Just like the rest of our body, with time our mouth and gums change shape and shrink. Due to these changes your denture can become loose and may not fit as well as it did over time. Which can make it difficult to eat as well as cause discomfort when talking, laughing and more. Loose dentures can also cause rubbing and irritation/soreness on the gums. There are two types of reline; Hard reline or soft reline. A hard reline is done by permanently adding a hard pink plastic similar to your original denture to the base of your denture. This material is moulded in the new shape of your gums and thus the denture hugs the gums more tightly and is a lot more stable.
In soft relines, a similar concept is utilized however a soft material that is more flexible lines the inside of the denture. Soft relines are usually done in cases when patients feel soreness with existing dentures or as a temporary measure when the gums need to heal.
As the process of gum shrinkage occur at a very slow rate and you may not notice how much they have shrunk until your dentures don’t fit well at all. It is recommended to have your dentures checked every two years. Dentists can spot gum changes and advise you when a reline is necessary thus keeping the dentures fitting comfortably and preventing the issue from getting any worse.
